Finding Your Way Home
Six miles west of Dataw Island is the town of Beaufort, a classic southern town, reminiscent of a quieter Charleston before the rest of the world discovered it. The historic district of Beaufort, a National historical Landmark, has retained its antebellum charm while developing a cosmopolitan appreciation for the arts, more frequently found in more largely populated towns.
Ten miles east of Dataw Island is Hunting Island State Park and the Atlantic Ocean. The park offers four miles of uncrowded beach and a 5,000 acre maritime forest which is home to many species of birds and animals.
